As per all Bar Method exercises, there is a right way to perform back-dancing AND a wrong way.

When you press your ribs down into your mat, you protect your back (and therapeutically stretch it). If you squeeze your seat, you add a seat-sculpting effect to this back-therapy (and in so doing, you keep your heart rate high while lying down). To top it all off, relax your shoulders and try to add an element of FUN — like you’re literally dancing on your back!
